Lately, I’ve been on a mission to find cute affordable furniture for my apartment. To my surprise, finding affordable furniture for a new home is super hard. In my mind, I thought I’d be able to fully furnish my apartment immediately with items from the thrift store and items from Ikea. Although I probably could’ve gotten most of my items from Ikea, I realized that even Ikea is expensive for somethings (specifically couches). Luckily, there are options for buying secondhand pieces online – which is where I ended up buying a really nice sleeper couch for $100. Here are the 5 websites where you can buy affordable secondhand furniture.
Places to buy gently used furniture:
1. Facebook Marketplace
Because apparently facebook does it all now. Facebook Marketplace is easy to use and has lots of variety.
2. Craigslist
An oldy, but goodie for anything and everything. Craigslist gets a bad rep sometimes, but I have successfully sold concert tickets with this site and purchased my last two cars on this site.
3. Offer Up
More aesthetically pleasing than Craigslist and has a mobile-friendly app. I ended up finding my sleeper couch through this app.
4. Next Door
Allows you to buy secondhand items from your neighbors but also keeps you in the loop of things going on in your neighborhood (i.e. events, items for sale, suspicious activity, and in my case, coyote sightings)
5. Letgo
Aesthetically better than Craigslist, but less pleasing than Offer Up.
