The concept of voting with your dollar has gained a lot of popularity recently. Money talks, so it’s important to use our voice to support companies that are doing good for people & the planet. But did you know voting with your dollar can go even further if you #PlantYourChange?
I partnered with Aspiration to share their amazing #PlantYourChange initiative. Basically, whenever you swipe your debit card or credit card, Aspiration will plant a tree when you round up your change. So, if you buy a yummy chai tea latte this fall for $3.98, if you decide to round up your change to $4.00, Aspiration will plant a tree! It’s super simple and impactful.
Did you know Americans spend approximately $30 billion every single day? Imagine how many trees we can plant if every single one of those purchases were rounded up. The climate crisis is real and is going to require all of us to make an effort to help fight against it. #PlantYourChange is an easy way to join the fight.
Why Is Planting Trees Helpful?
- Global warming is a major problem, so finding ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is crucial. Reforestation and planting trees helps to offset carbon because trees are natural carbon absorbers. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in one year a mature tree absorbs over 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releases oxygen in exchange. So the more trees there are to clean the air means less CO2 contributing to greenhouse emissions. This is one of the many strategies that can help in the ongoing effort to reverse global warming.
- Reforestation also helps restore biodiversity and local ecosystems that were affected by deforestation.

How does it work?
Aspiration teamed up with The Arbor Day Foundation and Eden Reforestation Projects to make this initiative possible. The Arbor Day Foundation is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees. They have planted more than 350 million trees throughout the country. Eden Reforestation Projects also plants millions of trees every year. Their main focus is on restoring biodiversity in local ecosystems.
