It’s crazy how living in LA has impacted my life in ways I didn’t expect. Before moving here, I knew LA had a reputation of being a “green” city, but I didn’t realize how quickly I would adapt to its sustainable culture. The city kind of forces you to adapt, because if you don’t, you will be paying fees for items that could be avoided. I’ve lived here for a little over two months and I’ve already made major strides (well, major in my eyes) towards green-living. Here are the eco-friendly habits I adopted since moving from Vegas to LA.
My New Eco-friendly Habits
1. Bringing my own bag when shopping
Unlike in Las Vegas, when you go to a store in California, you get charged a fee for using plastic bags. For this reason, I quickly learned to start carrying my own bags when shopping. If I forget to bring my own bag, I’ll go bagless.
2. Using less plastic straws
I used to feel so awkward refusing plastic straws at restaurants in Vegas. Thankfully, restaurants in California serve their drinks strawless, due to a recent bill that passed. So now I just sip my drink from the glass or bring my own straw.
3. Eating less meat
This is mainly because I do not like cooking meat. I don’t know why, but handling uncooked meat freaks me out a little bit. Because of that, I’ve been eating more vegetarian meals at home.
4. Walking more often
The city and the weather both are so beautiful in Cali, so I try to walk when I can. Plus, traffic is horrible, so it’s nice to avoid driving as much as possible.
