Last year I set quite a few goals for myself. I think I was overly ambitious with some of them, but I am really proud of myself for dreaming big. This year I plan to set more realistic goals and honestly, due to the pandemic, I am not going to stress if I don’t reach them. So let’s recap the past year, review my 2020 goals, and set some new goals for 2021!
Here’s a quick recap of 2020:
I want to start by acknowledging that 2020 was an eventful and traumatic year for many of us. There was a lot of good, but there was also a lot of bad. The one thing I can say about 2020 is it made me realize how quickly life can change in a moment.
Some of the bad that happened in 2020:
- Lost loved ones to cancer and to COVID-19
- Got into a horrible car accident (resulting in a broken pelvis, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung)
- Was hospitalized for 2 weeks
- Almost got ran over at a protest
Some of the good that happened in 2020:
- Got engaged
- Felt a strong sense of hope and community after attending my first protest
- Had a successful surgery after the accident
- Made major progress financially & structurally with Thrifts & Tangles
- Facetimed with loved ones more than ever before
Okay! Let’s review my goals from 2020:
Goal 1: Become an Authority Figure ✓
This goal wasn’t super measurable, but I think managed to make myself an authority figure in my niche of sustainability and thrifting. Below are the sub-goals I set to determine if this goal was met or not.
- ✓ Talk on podcasts – I was super grateful to be interviewed for three podcasts last year
- ✓ Be seen as a model – I modeled several times for Mantraband , a small business that gives back to local charities
- ✓ Attend events – I attended 1 in person event & 2 virtual events that were amazing. I was a panelist at Impact Fashion.
- ✓ Create inspiring content – I was really inspired by the content I created and I think my community was too. I finally focused on posting about two topics I’m passionate about: blogging and anti-racism.
Goal 2: Make $10,000 from Blog ✓
To my surprise, I met this goal. This was a huge milestone for my business. I set this goal not thinking I would actually meet it. I was able to reach this goal after learning how to negotiate with brands and learning how to charge my worth (thanks to investing in a few courses). Below are the sub-goals I set to help reach this goal.
- ✓ Work with brands – In Q4 of 2020 I booked $10,000 of income from collaborating with brands on sponsored posts. I worked with 20 brands total (9 gifted and 11 paid).
- ✓ Create a digital product – I finished creating my first digital product designed to help bloggers. It will launch next month.
- ✗ Host events at thrift stores/sustainable spaces – Everything was shut down due to covid-19 so this didn’t happen.
- ✗ Create a physical product – On hold for 2021.
Goal 3: Grow Audience ✓
My goal with T&T is to inspire people to give thrifting, sustainability, and their natural selves a chance. In 2020, I wanted to build a strong community and reach more people with my message. Below are the sub-goals I wanted to meet. I didn’t meet any of them.
- ✗ Grow YouTube to 20,000 Followers – I started the year with 7,790 followers and grew to 10,000 this year. Although I didn’t reach my goal, I am very happy with this number.
- ✗ Grow Instagram to 20,000 Followers – I started the year with 3,495 followers and grew to 10,000 this year. Although I didn’t reach my goal, I am very happy with this number.
- ✗ Grow Facebook Page to 1,000 Followers – 1 started with 233 followers and grew to 328. I am focusing more of my energy towards building my facebook group in 2021.
2021 Goals
Goal 1: Earn $60,000 from T&T/Modeling/Orange Collab
I have quite a few side hustles. Between the 3 of them I would like to earn this amount. I plan to reach this goal by selling the digital product I created, launching a service, landing long-term brand collabs, and focusing more energy on booking modeling/commercial work (only if it is safe to do so).
- Join the Orange Collab Facebook Group – The Orange Collab is a supportive community designed to help female BIPOC entrepreneurs uplevel their businesses by providing educational resources and networking opportunities.
Goal 2: Regain my Strength
I am really weak after my accident. I would love to regain my strength and get back to being able to do simple things like taking long walks and riding a bike again. I plan to reach this goal by prioritizing the plan provided to me by my physical therapist.
Goal 3: Streamline my Processes for T&T
In 2020, I started to streamline the behind the scene processes such as posting, filming, editing, on-boarding brand clients, etc. I would love to get super clear on these workflows in case I ever bring on help. I plan to streamline my processes by creating workflows for every piece of content I create and recording the amount of time it takes to complete each process. I also would love for all of my content to be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance and stop posting (as often) in real time. This will free up a lot of my time.
What is one goal you met in 2020 and one goal you set for 2021?
