Facebook gets a pretty bad rep, which is totally understandable, but Facebook GROUPS on the other hand are amazing! They are the perfect place to find supportive communities of like-minded people. If you’re a thrifter and you are looking for your people, let me tell you about the most amazing Facebook group I’ve come across, Thrifting Divas! As of today, this group has 88.6K members and they are all active thrifters who love the thrill of the thrift. The creator, Ayana Pitterson, is so friendly, welcoming, and stylish! I actually interviewed her on The Orange Collab podcast in 2020 on How to Grow a Loyal and Engaged Facebook Community. But this Facebook group is POPPIN! Let’s dive into why this is the Facebook group all thrifters must join.
Reasons to Join The Thrifting Divas Facebook Group
1. Supportive Community
Who doesn’t appreciate a supportive community?! If you’re a thrifter, your friends and family might not understand your thrifting obsession. They might think thrift shopping is dirty, cheap, or [insert other negative adjective here]. Sometimes our loved ones don’t understand our joy of thrifting. But let me tell you, this group gets it! Everyday people share their cute/quirky/chic thrifted outfits and how little they paid for them! It is such a supportive community and a place where you can feel seen, heard, and appreciated, especially black women!
2. Entertaining
Ayana has taken entertainment to a whole new level. The Thrifting Divas Facebook group has weekly live videos that are LIT (do people still say that?)! They are so entertaining and interactive. It’s a party when the group goes live. The most entertaining show they have is The Unbox Battles – where two thrifters go head to head! They each send each other a box of thrifted goods and the audience votes on who sent the better items. It’s cutthroat, honest, and fun to watch! And the ladies really bring their A-Game for this show
3. Live Selling
This might be the coolest part of the Facebook group. Pretty much every hour there is a vintage/secondhand seller LIVE AUCTIONING their items. It is like QVC but for thrifters. They even have a midnight madness series where people live sell at midnight! The items are super cheap (like $10 or less) and there are usually up to 200 people watching AT MIDNIGHT.
If you are interested in live selling, you can pay to go live in the group and access their super niched audience of 88K thrifters OR you can tune in to shop. Or if you’re like me you can just watch because you’re nosey but also love live chatting with the community. The group charges $59 – $75 to go live for an hour, I’ve watched sellers SELL OUT and make over $1,000 in an hour selling their pieces. It’s pretty impressive.
